It does not matter if you work for either a boss or a client, it can feel like you need to prove that you know certain things in order for them to value you. While this might be the angle during conversations, there is a much more powerful approach you can follow anytime: focus on the fact that you actually DO something with what you know. This is actually where you are paid for. Just like they say “knowing is half the battle”. If you stop there, you never conquer.

As an example: while interviewing for a new position, always tie your knowledge to something you did and to something you can do for the company you’re interviewing with.

In your job, don’t focus on sharing knowledge, but on sharing actual things you can start doing.
