When running a team, big things might consume most of your attention. As a leader, it helps to focus on the larger topics and leave the smaller details to the people you trust.

This does not follow for the more personal things everyone experiences. A great leader notices the small things and makes sure he checks in about them: your involvement with birthdays, hospital stuff and other important milestones can make an enormous difference in how your team experiences you as a leader and how accepted they feel individually.
