Let me tell you: there will always be more day-to-day things to get to. More emails. More tasks. But, on this ordinary Thursday, it is good to take a step back.

On two levels:

  1. Where do you see yourself in your work, in one year? Which things could you do today and tomorrow to get started towards that goal? Think position, big projects, type of work.

  2. Where do you see yourself in your life, in one year? What kind of stuff could you make time for outside of work to get to where you want to be? Think fitness, skills, relationships or financially, to name a few categories.

You’ll need new skills and you need to get to work to get them.

It is easy not to do this stuff, because you’re not good at it. It gives so much more feeling of progression to do the things you already know. That is exactly why you need to get started on these things, because they are your future. To get there and get the skills, you need to start practice right now.
